I used Photoshop highlight and shadow filter because it gives pics a strange flat but contrasty look if over done a bit.
After flattening I made a copy layer. Then i Gauss blurred the top layer a somewhere between a little and a lot. Next i erased the detail from the top blurred layer where i wanted the image to be sharp. That's around the edge of the bowls of the fountain and a couple of the trees on the right, doing this on just a couple of trees adds a little depth to the pic.
Finally I reduced the transparency of the top blurred layer till it looked right to me.
I'm self taught too so along the way I've had moments when i discover a technique that i use for various effects over the years.
I use this one a lot.
That's amazing, It's nice to know that someone who self taught themselves to work photoshop can makes such wonderful pictures. I'm just learning ^_^; so my artwork is meh...but i'm trying!
Your work is really good. All you need to do is keep on working and expermenting. I'll send you a note when I run across Imaging tricks and techniques and show you how I use them.
